THE PROBLEM
For many older adults, losing the ability to drive means losing a vital source of independence, limiting their ability to stay connected to people, places, and everyday activities.LOOKING AHEAD

PAIN POINTS
Getting in/out of a vehicle is awkward and physically demanding for people with limited joint mobility.EXISTING MODIFICATIONS
Current solutions rely on retrofitting instead of redesigning, resulting in a disjointed user experience.
DESIGN GOAL
Create a seamless vehicle entry and exit experience that provides continuous support for older adults, enabling safe, comfortable, and independent travel.

Barrier-free & supported entry
The clamshell door lifts the overhead door frame, allowing users to step directly into the vehicle without stooping or hitting their head.
The lower portion of the door unfolds into a gentle ramp with handrails, creating a smooth transition into the vehicle while bridging the gap between the curb and the car.

SEATING
Supported transitions
The seats rise to meet users, reducing the physical effort required to transition between standing and sitting.
Integrated armrests remain within reach, providing continous support.
STORAGE & LIFESTYLE
Storage within reach
The upper trunk opens toward the vehicle entrance, allowing users to easily stow walking canes and larger belongings while maintaining continuous support from the integrated handrails.
The lower trunk unfolds into a ramp, enabling luggage, wheelchairs, and other heavy items to be rolled directly into the vehicle with minimal lifting.
